The Iconic

3 Hour cruise $270
3 hour hire downstream ‘The Iconic Perth’ — we launch from Maylands, a river suburb in the eastern part of Perth. On the Foreshore we are in good company with Maylands Waterland, Maylands Public Golf Course, tennis and recreational club. Travelling downstream is more of an adventure of places to see and architecture. Captain Stirling landed on these shores in 1827 and 1829. From here you can see Belmont Racecourse, Claisebrook Cove, Optus Stadium (voted the most beautiful stadium in the world 2019) and Perth’s Matagarup Pedestrian bridge before entering Perth Waters. This area is our CBD with Heirisson Island on your left, On the Point hospitality precinct on your right nestled on Point Fraser. The Riverside Drive is a long stretch of reclaimed land before Perth city and Elizabeth Quay opens up on the right hand side. Across the open water, you have South Perth which can be reached by following the dredging channels (red and green markers).

Back to Nature

3 Hour cruise $270
3 hour hire upstream ‘Back to Nature’ — Again we launch from Maylands, but this time leaving the hustle and bustle behind and go into the quiet Swan River to experience nature and wildlife. Feel no guilt in travelling and exploring Perth's amazing eco-river system on our electric boat. We leave no footprint and disturb no one. Here the river is more narrow with Ascot Waters, Peninsula Farm (tea house), another Racecourse on the riverfront, Riverside Garden public open space, beautiful properties and residential housing with river views and small beaches where locals come to cool off during the warmer summer months. This intimate journey will see the tree lines kissing the river and wildlife frolicking, from dolphins to pelicans, and black cockatoos. The area around Garvey Park is an historic campsite with underground spring. Turtles were sourced from nearby Gobba Lake. Ascot Kayak Club houses this land with kiosk and public open spaces today. At Sandy Beach it’s time to return. Make sure to bring your camera!

Freedom To Roam

6 Hour cruise $480
6 hour hire ‘Freedom to Roam’ — Choices, choices! With 6 hours you can leisurely cruise around downstream, stop for a swim and get refreshments, or use your time to enjoy the company on the water. There is no hurrying back. Just use the 3 hour options both ways, or stretch it out one way or the other.
Or you may want to check out the Swan Valley - Western Australia’s award winning wine region. Set off upstream. It’s a tranquil river, winding it’s way east. Past Sandy Beach you will hit Kings Meadow, Perth’s polo grounds, on your right. Guildford Bridge with it’s oxygenation of the river is a place to watch out, stay to the left of these, but next up is the bridges, find the correct channels to pass through them. The Fishmarket is next (boat ramp) and Success hills/ Bennett Brook with Indigenous importance. Around the bend is Guildford. An historic town, third town in the New Settlement, with thriving antique shops and culture. The Riverside cafe and Woodbridge is where Captain Stirling made is holiday house, and from here, the wine region unfolds with its stunning vineyards.

1. Are lifejackets included in the hire price

Yes, 8 adult life jackets are available in the boat.
Life jackets for children are available on land and will need to be reserved when booking, please let us know the weight of the children attending and how many you need in the booking form.

We do not have life vests for dogs, unfortunately.

2. How many people can be in the boat?

There is room for 8 people. This includes children/infants and dogs.
There is no need to contact me if you are less than 8.
If you have more than 8, you will not be allowed to hire the boat due to State Regulations and safety on the water.

3. Can I bring my own food and drinks?

Yes, you can BYO. There is a large table in the middle of the boat and ample space between the seats and under the table for an esky. Large camping esky will have to stay put on land due to weight restrictions. Drink responsibly!

4. How many boats do you have and what is maximum capacity?

We have one boat at the moment but are working on including more in our fleet. The maximum people in the boat, are 8 people. Keep up to date with further progress via our Facebook and Instagram accounts.

5. Can we get a boat without booking in advance?

No, at this time you can only book online, 24+ hours prior to sailing.
We are not moored at any jetty and will need to take the boat to the boat ramp for you.  We are open every day now and are sometimes booked out well in advance.

Plan ahead, you can always reschedule the date, free of charge, up to 24 hours prior to your booking.

6. Something has happened and I need to cancel the booking

Please contact us on ahoy@nautipicnics.com.au 48-24 hours prior to sailing and we will refund the entire boat hire cost ($10 admin fee will be deducted from your deposit due to credit card fees). You can always reschedule and enjoy the boating on another day!

7. How old do I have to be in order to drive the boat?

You will need to have a valid ID and be over 20 years old

8. Can I drink alcohol on board?
  • The skipper of the boat must remain under the legal alcohol limit of .05 during the sailing.
  • The rest of the guests may consume alcohol, but we are encouraging moderation and good behaviour.
  • As a skipper, you are responsible for everyone on board and the boat.
  • Any fines given by authorities are yours to keep!
9. Is there a cover/roof on the boat

Yes, there is a huge Bimini roof that covers the seating area. It’s perfect in summer to keep the sun out, but in winter it’s best to have it down. Please let us know your preference as we will always erect it prior to sailing and it cannot be changed once out on the river.

10. Do I need a skipper's ticket/boat licence to drive the boat?

No, anyone over the age of 20 can drive the boat due to the low horsepower (under 5hp). It is important, however, that you follow the induction given to you and obey the laws that apply on the water. These can be also be found in the laminated brochure on board the boat and will also be sent to you with the confirmation letter

11. How fast do the boat go?

Top speed is approx 4 knots (8 km/hr) or brisk walking pace.

The speed limit on the Swan River is 5 knots, though Perth Waters and Water activity areas are 8 knots. So be careful as you will be the slowest boat on the river.

12. Can I hire the boat with a Captain?

Unfortunately, we cannot organise a skipper/captain for you due to the rules and regulations by AMSA around skippered vessels for hire.

13. Can I fish from the boat?

No, due to being a picnic boat, the people after you might be on there to enjoy their food and drinks and a fishy smell is not very pleasant.

14. How long does the battery last for?

The battery has the capacity to last 6.5 hours on full speed. This means we can take max 2 x 3 hour hire per day if both drives on full speed (4knots).

15. Can I moor anywhere on the river?

We want you to enjoy the time on the water so we strongly advise you to not moor on any jetties. However, if you need to use facilities, you can moor on public jetties, but for a maximum of 15min. Some private jetties allow people to moor up to 4 hours. Please see the map for details.

Do keep in mind that you should never leave the boat out of sight. As the skipper, you are responsible for the boat and passengers at all times during your sail time.

16. What happens if I arrive or return the boat too late?

Firstly, it is your responsibility to make sure you arrive for your booking on time. Where possible we try to accommodate a late arrival of up to 15 minutes by pushing the return time back by 15 minutes. Where there is a subsequent booking this will not be possible and you must return by the agreed time.

In the event that you arrive more than 15 minutes after your scheduled booking without contacting me, you forfeit your booking and full payment. This is due to the fact that I can only moor at the jetty for 15min and I can lose my licence to operate if I overstay.

Weather and tide have to be taken into consideration. Charges of $50 will apply to boats returning more than 15 min late. If you running late interferes with another person’s booking, and they choose to cancel their booking due to this, we reserve the right to charge you for their booking as well. Late fees will be deducted from your deposit.
However, should something have happened to the boat or any passengers, please contact us ASAP so we can help you out.

17. Is there a deposit/bond for hiring a boat?

No, we have changed this, but when you book the boat, you are liable for any damage you make i.e.

  • – fin, propeller, large scratches, loss of maps and info – from $10
  • – late fees – starting at $50 when you are 15min late
  • – cleaning fee – if excessing mess in the boat – $50
  • – and up $1,000 excess if the boat needs repairs
18. What if I damage the boat?

As the skipper, you are responsible for the boat and everyone on board.
In case of damage to the boat, the engine and/or other equipment, the hirer is liable for the cost of the damage or the insurance excess of $1,000. If the damage is due to negligence and for not taking safety into consideration, and the boat is out of action for longer periods of time due to repair, the hirer will be liable for loss of income as well

19. Are there any cancellation fees?

You can cancel (less $10 admin fee) your booking 48hrs prior to sailing. After this, the hire fees are non refundable.

If it rains or it is too windy on the day of your trip, or we deem it irresponsible to hire the boat out due to other circumcises, we need to reschedule your trip within 3 months.

20. Can there be more than one skipper?

Yes, please let us know when you arrive at the jetty as we will need to take a copy of all ID’s.

21. What to bring?

Dress appropriately for the weather and for spending time on the river. Please check weather apps and stay up-to-date.
It can be cooler on the water, so a jumper or cardigan is a good idea.

Sunscreen and a hat should be worn even on overcast days to avoid sunburn.

Pack a picnic (please leave napkins, paper towels, cling wrap or anything else that can be easily taken by the wind), make sure you have plenty of water, a charged phone in case you need to contact me and anything else you think might make your trip more enjoyable.

22. Are you dog friendly?

Yes, we would love to see your pooches out with you.
Unfortunately we don’t carry life vests for the dogs, but please bring your own along if your dog needs it.
1 dog = 1 person. Bare in mind there is only about 20cm from cushions to the railing of the boat, so the best place for your pooch would be on the floor or on your lap so they are safe.

We would love to hear from you and are happy to answer any questions you might have to make your dream day on the river a reality.
